Structural Relations of Sport Participation, Physical Activity, Social Capital and Mental Health in Disadvantaged Communities

Background: Health through sports links sports participation with physical, social and psychological outcomes. Therefore, the present study was compiled with the aim of structural relationships of sports participation, physical activity, social capital and mental health among disadvantaged communities.
Methods: The research method is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-correlation based on structural equations in terms of data collection. The statistical population of the research includes all citizens aged 18-60 in Kermanshah city in Jafarabad, Fadak, Rashidi, and Karnachi areas, and most of these people belong to the deprived communities of the society. According to the size of the unlimited population according to Morgan's table, 384 people were selected as a sample based on the available sampling method. In this research, from the sports participation questionnaire of Gill et al. (1983); social capital Nahapit and Ghoshal (1998); Physical activity of Beck (2000) and mental health (GHQ) of Goldberg and Hiller (1972) were used. Data analysis was done based on Pearson correlation coefficient and structural equation model.
Results: "Social capital" on "sports participation" and "sports participation" on "physical activity", they have a positive and significant effect, also "social capital" Positive effect on "mental health", "sports participation" on "mental health" and "physical activity" on "mental health" And it has meaning. But the results showed that "social capital" has no significant effect on "physical activity".
Conclusion: In order to improve the mental health of underprivileged citizens, it is necessary to pay attention to the amount of sports and physical participation and their social capital. |
