Abstract:   (14 Views)
Background: The entry of counterfeit sports supplements into the market has occurred mainly due to the profiteering of some illegal individuals and groups who endanger the health of consumers by producing and supplying low-quality and even dangerous products. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to identify the consequences of the prevalence of the counterfeit sports supplements market.
Methods: The research method was qualitative and data-driven with the Glaser approach. The statistical population consisted of three groups of consumers, suppliers of these supplements, and sports nutritionists. The sampling method was snowball. The research tool was an interview, which was conducted with 19 people. The validity of the research tool (interview) was confirmed by the interviewees and then by expert professors, and the intra-subject agreement method was used to measure reliability. The grounded theory method and Max Quda software version 20 were used to analyze the data.
Results: The consequences of the expansion of the counterfeit sports supplement market include: harm to consumer health, allergic reactions and poisoning, reduced public trust in supplements, reduced quality of sports performance, and economic losses to legitimate manufacturers. These categories included a total of 14 main concepts and 52 factors or open codes.
Conclusion: Strengthening supervision of the production and distribution chain, increasing public awareness, especially among athletes and coaches, and implementing stricter laws to prevent the distribution of unauthorized supplements are proposed as operational suggestions of this study.
Keywords: Counterfeit Drugs, Consumer Health, Sport dietary supplement
