Department of Health Management, Policy and Economics, School of Public Health, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran
Abstract:   (7 Views)
Population aging is emerging as one of Iran's superchallenges, progressing at a pace faster than global standards, and will have extensive implications for the country's health system, social welfare, and economy. The increasing burden of disease, high healthcare costs, a shrinking working-age population ratio, and pressure on pension funds are among the most significant consequences of this trend.
This advocacy document aims to explain the dimensions of the issue and emphasize the urgent need for coordinated action by policymakers to prepare for this crisis. It also presents national strategies, including the development of an age-friendly health system, expansion of long-term care services, strengthening data governance, leveraging new technologies, and supporting families and caregivers.
The ultimate goal of this document is to draw the attention of senior national decision-makers and create a foundation for implementing fundamental measures to manage the consequences of population aging.
