Ibn Sina's View on Spiritual Health

Background: One of the most important pillars in medical sciences is attention to spirituality and soul of human beings. In the past, physicians learned sciences such as jurisprudence, philosophy, mathematics and astronomy in addition to medicine. Spirituality gives divinity to all things. Therefore, attention to the spiritual aspect and spirituality in human helps battle diseases. The aim of this article was to examine spiritual health from Ibn Sina's point of view.
Methods: This study was a review article and also presents the author’s opinions and theories.
Results: Nowadays, scientists pay more attention to spiritual health worldwide. It has long history in the Islamic republic of Iran. Abu Ali Sina's research reveals his deep cognition and Islamic view on spiritual aspect of health. He believed that human body health depends on health of the soul. According to Ibn Sina's theory, spirituality is a gift that God has given to man for theoretical and practical reasons.
Conclusion: Abu Ali Sina believed in the spiritual aspect of health, identified it based on Islamic teachings and recommended its comprehensive effects in medicine and health beside other aspects of health (physical, mental, and social). |
