The Dual-Spacization of Spiritual Health: The Relationship between Sihha Culture, Spiritual Health, and New Cultural Technologies

Abstract:   (17 Views)
Spiritual health, as a fundamental dimension of health, plays a vital role in fostering inner peace, psychological balance, and individual coherence. Spiritual health is both a subjective, internal state and a phenomenon with objective, external manifestations. With the emergence of new technologies—which are not merely cultural tools but have created a cultural ecosystem—this environment serves as a potential vehicle for both spirituality and goodness, while simultaneously possessing the capacity to become an ecosystem of vice and aberration. In Islamic thought, this form of health is not merely a mental or psychological state; rather, it is the result of the human bond with Allah, divine values, righteous deeds, and constructive, benevolence-centered interaction with others. Spiritual health, by strengthening servitude (Ubudiyyah), rationality, and transcendent moral virtues, facilitates the realization of Sihha (Soundness)—defined here as freedom from internal turmoil and the ordering of individual and social behaviors. With the advent of new technologies, human existence and patterns of individual and collective life have entered a new level that possesses the capacity to both strengthen and threaten spiritual health. Digital and algorithmic technologies, characterized by flexibility, infinite growth capacity, and the ability to continuously regulate behaviors, can serve as tools for consolidating meaning-oriented actions, enhancing the sense of connection to the Transcendent, and strengthening moral order. Conversely, the lack of value-based orientation in these spaces can lead to the decline of meaning, the hollowing out of life, and consequently, the weakening of spiritual health. From this perspective, if new technologies are conditioned upon conscious design and utilization, they provide the groundwork for creating opportunities for spiritual growth and individual transcendence. The nexus between human nature (Fitrat), divine values, and cultural technologies constitutes the axis for realizing Sihha, and the intelligent utilization of technological capacities can consolidate spiritual health and righteous action in human beings.
