The Basis of Spiritual Health

Background: Spiritual health is a relatively new topic in the world, especially in Islamic countries. This article explains the basics of “spiritual health” based on Islamic teachings; we evaluated it in three parts: 1) Definition of spiritual health. 2) Essential questions regarding spiritual health. and 3) Spiritual health in the Quran.
Methods: This study was performed using the Holy Quran and Islamic literature.
Results: The scientific literature on this subject is very poor and sometimes eclectic, thus discussions are not well understood, and there are many key concepts in this field poorly understood. The contemporary definition of spiritual health has important philosophical and religious parameters for research. These questions begin with the basics of this topic and continue to more elaborate details. The Holy Quran is the highest and most important source of Islamic cognition, which relates to information regarding spiritual health, and should be reviewed systematically. The Quranic interpretation of the "the pure heart" is the closest expression to spiritual health; phrases with opposite meanings can be interpreted (in the Quran) as "the diseased heart", and some of important aspects and indicators of spiritual health can be identified with this method.
Conclusion: Spiritual health is: "The elated sublime status of the individual in the society and liberation from materialism under divine teaching and has four dimensions namely insight, attitude, behavior and action which are assessed in line with the teachings of the Holy Quran." |
